BOG ORCHID Hammarbya paludosa (Orchidaceae) Height to 8cm. Delicate and slender perennial that grows among Sphagnum moss in floating bogs. Stems are bulbous at the base. The whole plant looks yellowish green. FLOWERS are tiny, with a narrowly ovate lip; borne in spikes, up to 5cm long (Jul-Sep). FRUITS are egg-shaped. LEAVES are rounded-oval and mainly basal. STATUS-Widespread but local Scotland; scarce or absent elsewhere although locally common in New Forest.
