Rock Sea-lavender - Limonium dodartiforme
ROCK SEA-LAVENDERS Limonium binervosum agg. Family Plumbaginaceae (Thrift and allies). Height to 30cm. A complex group of hairless perennials comprising a mix of ‘species’ and ‘subspecies’ that have evolved in isolation, and are separated geographically and by habitat preference including soil and rock type. Members of the aggregate grow on coastal cliffs and rocks; some are found on stabilised shingle beaches. Flowers are 6-7mm long and pinkish lilac; borne in small, well-spaced clusters on sprays that branch from below the middle (Jul-Sep). The leaves are narrow spoon-shaped with winged stalks and 1-3 veins that originate separately at the base. Rock Sea-lavenders are very locally common on coasts.
