Mat Grass (Nardus stricta) HEIGHT to 20cm. Densley tufted, wiry perennial that often forms large patches on moors, mountain grassland and (more rarely) on heaths. FLOWERS In narrow, 1 sided spikes, the spikelets in 2 rows (June-Aug). FRUITS Small, dry nutlets. LEAVES Grey-green, wiry.
