YELLOW-WORT Blackstonia perfoliata (Gentianaceae) Height to 30cm. Upright and distinctive, grey-green annual of short, calcareous grassland. FLOWERS are 10-15mm across with 6-8 bright yellow petal lobes that open only in bright sunshine (Jun-Oct). FRUITS are capsules. LEAVES are ovate and waxy, those on the stem are borne in opposite pairs that are fused at the base around the stem; basal leaves form a rosette. STATUS-Locally common in England and Wales, mainly in the S.
