HORSESHOE VETCH Hippocrepis comosa (Fabaceae) Height to 10cm. Spreading, hairless perennial that is restricted to calcareous grassland. FLOWERS are 7-10cm long and yellow, arranged in circular heads (May-Jul). FRUITS are wrinkled, the segments fancifully horseshoe-shaped. LEAVES comprise pairs of narrow leaflets. STATUS-Locally common on chalk and limestone in E and SE England only.
