GROUNDSEL Senecio vulgaris (Asteraceae) Height to 40cm
Branched annual plant that is either upright or spreading. Grows in cultivated and disturbed ground and familiar as a garden weed. FLOWERS comprise cylindrical heads, 10mm long, of yellow disc florets only, with black-tipped greenish bracts; carried in clusters (Jan-Dec). FRUITS are very hairy. LEAVES are pinnately lobed; lower leaves are stalked, upper ones clasp the stem. STATUS-Widespread and common throughout.
